Kashmir Ahead

NFDC partners with J&K for first International Film Festival

Srinagar, June 3,2026-In a major boost to the film and tourism sectors, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced that the Union Territory will host its first-ever International Film Festival from September 7 to 11 this year. The landmark event is expected to bring together filmmakers, actors, producers, and cinema enthusiasts from across India and abroad, positioning Jammu and Kashmir as a premier destination for filmmaking and cultural exchange.

The government will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) to strengthen the region’s film ecosystem and promote Jammu and Kashmir as a preferred shooting destination. The partnership aims to facilitate film production, encourage investment in the creative industry, and create new opportunities for local artists and technicians.

Officials said the International Film Festival will showcase feature films, documentaries, short films, and regional cinema while providing a platform for discussions, workshops, and interactions with industry experts. The event is expected to highlight the rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, and filmmaking potential of Jammu and Kashmir.

The festival forms part of the government’s broader efforts to revive the film industry in the region following the introduction of the Jammu and Kashmir Film Policy. Over the past few years, several Bollywood and regional film productions have returned to the Valley, contributing to tourism growth and local employment.

The collaboration with NFDC is expected to further strengthen institutional support for filmmakers and enhance Jammu and Kashmir’s visibility on the national and international cinema map. Industry stakeholders believe the festival will attract filmmakers, investors, and tourists, generating economic opportunities and promoting cultural diplomacy.

With preparations underway, the inaugural International Film Festival is being seen as a significant milestone in Jammu and Kashmir’s journey towards becoming a vibrant hub for cinema, creativity, and cultural tourism.
