Udhampur district administration launches clean himalayan & hill cities initiative at Patnitop under Swachh Bharat Mission

Udhampur ,August 4,2026- In a major step towards promoting sustainable tourism and environmental conservation, the District Administration Udhampur has launched the Clean Himalayan & Hill Cities Initiative at the picturesque hill destination of Patnitop under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).

The campaign aims to strengthen cleanliness, scientific waste management, and eco-friendly practices across tourist destinations in the district. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Tourism Department and other stakeholder agencies to preserve the pristine beauty of the Himalayan region while encouraging responsible tourism.

The drive focuses on improving sanitation infrastructure, promoting waste segregation at source, reducing plastic pollution, and creating awareness among residents, tourists, businesses, and local communities about environmental protection. Various activities, including cleanliness drives, public awareness campaigns, waste collection initiatives, and community participation programmes, will be conducted throughout the campaign.

Officials said the initiative will continue until August 15, coinciding with the Swachh Bharat Mission activities and the celebrations leading up to Independence Day. Citizens, volunteers, educational institutions, civil society organisations, and tourists have been urged to actively participate in making Patnitop and other hill destinations cleaner, greener, and more sustainable.

The Clean Himalayan & Hill Cities Initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to protecting the fragile Himalayan ecosystem while enhancing the overall visitor experience. By promoting sustainable waste management and environmental stewardship, the campaign aims to establish Patnitop as a model hill destination for cleanliness and responsible tourism.
