Srinagar, August 4,2026- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) conference on “Nature-Based Solutions for Enhanced Climate Resilience and Livelihood in Himalayas,” where he emphasized the need to integrate Nature-based Solutions (NbS) into development planning to ensure a sustainable and resilient future for the Himalayan region.
Addressing the conference, the Lieutenant Governor said that nature itself is infrastructure and highlighted the importance of conserving ecosystems while pursuing economic growth and development. He stressed that Nature-based Solutions should become an integral part of planning and policymaking to enhance climate resilience and protect the fragile Himalayan environment.
Manoj Sinha underscored that sustainable development in the Himalayas requires a balanced approach that strengthens ecological security while improving livelihoods. He called for greater collaboration among policymakers, researchers, academic institutions, civil society, and local communities to implement innovative and science-based solutions for climate adaptation.
The Lieutenant Governor also emphasized the importance of community partnership in environmental conservation, stating that local participation is essential for the long-term success of climate resilience initiatives. He noted that integrating Nature-based Solutions into infrastructure and development projects would help safeguard biodiversity, reduce climate risks, and promote sustainable livelihoods across the Himalayan region.
The conference at IUST brought together experts, researchers, policymakers, and environmental stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for enhancing climate resilience through ecosystem-based approaches and sustainable resource management.
