Srinagar – Students of Class VIII from PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 Srinagar recently participated in an enriching vocational education workshop focused on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning , underscoring the school’s commitment to equipping young minds with 21st-century skills. The program, which concluded with an educational visit to the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology , Srinagar, took place as part of the broader initiatives under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the PM Shri Scheme.
The workshop, held from February 10 to February 22, 2025, spanned 30 hours and provided hands-on training in AI and ML using Python, a widely-used programming language. Designed to foster critical thinking and technological proficiency, the program aimed to prepare students for a future driven by innovation and digital transformation. The initiative reflects the PM Shri Scheme’s goal of upgrading schools like KV No. 1 Srinagar into model institutions that align with modern educational standards.
Following the intensive training, the students visited NIELIT Srinagar, a premier institute known for its contributions to electronics and IT education. The visit offered an opportunity to see real-world applications of the concepts they had explored during the workshop, further enhancing their understanding of AI and ML’s potential. This practical exposure was described as an “inspiring” capstone to the program by sources associated with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan .
The event was organised in collaboration with NIELIT Srinagar, highlighting a growing partnership between educational institutions to promote advanced vocational learning. A statement from the Ministry of Education emphasized that such programs are pivotal in “empowering students for the future,” aligning with NEP 2020’s focus on holistic and skill-based education.
PM Shri KV No. 1 Srinagar is among the schools selected under the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) initiative, which aims to transform 14,500 schools nationwide into exemplars of quality education. The school’s efforts to integrate cutting-edge technology into its curriculum have been lauded as a step toward preparing students for emerging career opportunities in science and technology.
This workshop follows a trend of similar initiatives across Kendriya Vidyalayas. For instance, KV Upper Shillong hosted a six-day AI and ML internship in November 2024, while KV No. 2 Itanagar offered a comparable program in December 2024, both in collaboration with NIELIT centers. These efforts signal a concerted push to bridge the gap between traditional education and the demands of a tech-driven world.
Students and educators alike expressed enthusiasm about the program. While specific comments from participants were not detailed in available reports, the initiative’s emphasis on hands-on learning and its culmination in a visit to NIELIT Srinagar suggest a positive reception. The workshop is expected to pave the way for further vocational education opportunities at PM Shri KV No. 1 Srinagar, reinforcing its role as a leader in innovative schooling.
As India continues to advance its educational framework, programs like these underscore the importance of early exposure to technology for young learners. With the support of the PM Shri Scheme and institutions like NIELIT, schools such as KV No. 1 Srinagar are setting a benchmark for others to follow.
