Pulwama Garlic Mandi Boosts Farmers’ Income with ₹40 Lakh Trade in Just Days
Shabir Ahmed, Assistant Marketing Officer Pulwama said, we encourage big traders to come here so that growers have one point collection centre. Growers bring their garlic produce and they get cash in return. This is how they are benefitting from garlic mandi.
Work is being carried out here on a large scale this time. Growers are getting big income. Inter cropping is being done. Along with apple, the growers also grow garlic and that is how they are getting double income. Their benefit is that they are getting a one-point sales centre so thay do not have to go outside. This year the garlic sales production is good, so a lot of stock is coming in. This ‘mandi’ has been going on here for the past week.
In the data we have recorded over four or five days, garlic trades worth ₹30–40 lakh have taken place. This government mandi offers three auction fads. Here the growers’ produce gets unloaded and dries without getting spoilt. There is a facility for water, power and security.
A Food Agency Worker, Baba Khurshid says, it is fortunate that we have a mandi here in Pulwama; the farmers are benefiting greatly from it. The government wants the farmers to benefit. The garlic here is getting famous all over in India. We greatly hope that its market keeps on increasing, said the Food Agency Worker in Pulwama.
