Baramulla, July 15, 2025: District Magistrate (DM) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, chaired the 18th District-Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) meeting, focusing on robust measures to curb drug abuse through enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation. The meeting, held at the DM’s office, emphasized a multi-pronged strategy to address the growing drug menace in the district.Minga Sherpa directed various departments to strengthen joint efforts, stressing the importance of coordinated action among law enforcement, educational institutions, and civil society to eradicate drug-related activities. The DM underscored the need for stringent enforcement to dismantle drug trafficking networks, while also promoting awareness campaigns to educate the public, particularly youth, about the dangers of substance abuse.A key focus of the meeting was enhancing rehabilitation programs to support individuals struggling with addiction, ensuring their reintegration into society. Sherpa called for sustained community participation and proactive measures to safeguard Baramulla’s future from the perils of drug abuse. This aligns with ongoing efforts in the district, such as the recent drug awareness program organised by Baramulla Police at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Boniyar, aimed at educating students about the devastating effects of drugs.
The meeting also reviewed progress on previous NCORD/NMBA initiatives, including the identification of drug hotspots and targeted interventions, as outlined in the 17th meeting held on April 3, 2025. The DM urged stakeholders to continue plantation drives and other community-driven activities to promote environmental consciousness alongside anti-drug efforts.
Baramulla Police reiterated their commitment to cracking down on drug peddlers, with recent operations leading to the arrest of three individuals, including a woman, and the recovery of contraband substances at Chek Tappar Kreeri. The police encouraged public cooperation, urging citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency helpline 112.
The 18th NCORD/NMBA meeting reflects Baramulla’s resolve to create a drug-free society through collaborative and comprehensive strategies, setting a model for other districts in the fight against drug abuse.
