Banihal, July 27,2026- To ensure the health and safety of pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the Food Safety Department has intensified inspections at langar sites in Ramban and Banihal, conducting rigorous daily checks on food quality and hygiene standards.
Teams of food safety officials are carrying out regular inspections at community kitchens serving thousands of devotees along the Yatra route. The inspections focus on maintaining high standards of food preparation, storage, cleanliness, and sanitation to ensure that pilgrims receive safe and hygienic meals throughout their journey.
As part of the ongoing drive, officials are collecting food samples from langars and food establishments for laboratory testing to verify quality and ensure compliance with food safety regulations. The department is also examining the freshness of ingredients, cooking practices, water quality, and overall hygiene at the facilities.
Officials have been sensitising langar organisers, volunteers, and food handlers about maintaining proper sanitation, using clean drinking water, wearing protective gear, and following safe food handling practices. They have also advised organisers to store raw materials appropriately and avoid the use of expired or contaminated food items.
The intensified inspection campaign is part of the administration’s comprehensive efforts to provide a safe, smooth, and hassle-free pilgrimage experience for devotees visiting the Holy Cave Shrine. Ensuring food safety remains a key priority as thousands of pilgrims rely on free langars and community kitchens during the annual Yatra.
Authorities stated that the inspection drive will continue throughout the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, with officials conducting daily monitoring, surprise inspections, and sample testing to uphold food quality standards and protect public health.
The initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and food safety, ensuring that every pilgrim is served nutritious, safe, and hygienically prepared meals during one of India’s most significant spiritual pilgrimages.
