It is a matter of happiness for me to be present here today among you all at this significant event—an ‘Interface’ organized to foster social and religious harmony and celebrate our shared heritage. I had previously visited you all on May 12th, when the ‘Drug-Free Campaign’ was underway, said the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha. And the way the citizens, youth, sisters, and mothers of Baramulla gave momentum to this campaign—I would first like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you—for the unprecedented cooperation and support you extended. This program is a symbol of collective consciousness that has inspired the land of Jammu and Kashmir to choose the path of unity, harmony, and ‘Kashmiriyat’. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Save Youth and Future Foundation, who conceived this dialogue and worked with great dedication to bring it to fruition. Friends, at a time when many countries across the world are grappling with struggle and conflict, we have resolved to fulfill a responsibility that reminds us all that the true strength of humanity lies in the values that bind us together. The people of Baramulla have witnessed that the anti-drug campaign in Jammu and Kashmir is not merely a law-and-order measure; it has evolved into a mass movement that awakens the conscience of society. It has helped strengthen our social fabric by reaching every household, family and individual. And today, I wish to state with confidence that a society which frees itself from the shackles of addiction is the one that gains the capacity to reach new heights of progress. Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, repeatedly said the same thing: start the change you wish to see with yourself. And today, on this occasion, I wish to state that those who have come here with the conviction that there will be no discrimination based on religion—we will build Baramulla and Jammu & Kashmir on the foundation of our shared heritage and shared culture. I need to respectfully tell them that we must prove this through our conduct; mere words will not suffice. If there is any land in the world that can teach the globe how diverse communities and faiths can coexist in peace, happiness, and trust, then that land is Jammu & Kashmir, and that land is India. For a very long time, this land has endured the scourge of terrorism and drug abuse. Many have lost their own, significantly impacting the consciousness, dreams, and futures of the youth; and I wish to state with confidence that this phase is not merely breathing its last—it has come to an end. Let us all come together to build a Jammu and Kashmir that is stronger, more prosperous, completely peaceful, and progressive; and together, let us build an India that serves as a source of inspiration for the entire world—embodying goodwill, development, and humanity.
