Kashmir I March 22, 2025- On World Water Day, celebrated , Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu & Kashmir emphasised the critical role of water in sustaining life and called for collective action to ensure “clean & safe water” for all. Addressing an event in Jammu, LG Manoj Sinha urged the people of J&K to promote “water harvesting,” “reduce waste,” and “preserve resources” to secure a sustainable future while respecting “nature’s balance.”
“Water is the foundation of life. On this World Water Day, let us commit to restoring the delicate balance of nature and ensuring clean & safe water reaches every household in J&K,” Sinha said. He highlighted ongoing efforts in the Union Territory, including the implementation of over 3,256 water supply schemes worth more than Rs 13,000 crore, aimed at bolstering water infrastructure and conservation.
The LG stressed the importance of water harvesting, noting J&K’s rich natural water bodies like Dal Lake and the region’s rivers, which require protection from pollution and overuse. “We must reduce waste and preserve resources by adopting innovative practices like rainwater harvesting and efficient usage,” he added, referencing initiatives like the ‘Athwas’ campaign and the Dal Lake cleaning drive under his administration. These efforts involve de-weeding, dredging, and modern machinery to restore “nature’s balance” in J&K’s ecosystems.
World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, aligns with the United Nations’ push for sustainable water management. This year, as global attention turns to water security, LG Sinha’s call to action resonates with J&K’s unique challenges—balancing development with the preservation of its pristine environment. “Every citizen has a role to play. Let’s pledge to safeguard our water resources for a brighter future,” he concluded, encouraging community participation in conservation efforts across J&K.
