A Capacity Building & Training Workshop was conducted by the Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Government of Jammu & Kashmir in district Pulwama. The training is part of the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyaan. The aim of this training is to achieve the targets of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, said Owais Mushtaq, Asstt. Commissioner Panchayat of Pulwama. This will ensure that the next generation gets to see and live in a better world. Taking this into consideration, the Panchayati Rural Department of Pulwama headed by the Commissioner Rural Development Department has taken the initiative of giving training to all Panch, Sarpanch, Block Development Council (BDC) and District Development Council (DDC). Mohd Akram Sheikh, Sarpanch says, this training helps us a lot in doing the work. Now the bribe system does not work. Panchayat work can be done for free and it will be genuine work. Another Sarpanch, Mohd. Shafi Dar says, till now the Panchayati Raj which was working did not know how to prepare the billing, how to carry forward the work and to plan for development, etc. The training is useful which will train the Panchayat workers to allocate the funds for areas that need development. Another Sarpanch, Nazir Ahmad Ganie says, the training is about how to use the powers effectively. To make the Panchayats friendly and to make the Panchayats open for women too.The effort is on for a clean and green Panchayat. A lot of transparency is coming into the Panchayati institution. The Sarpanchs and workers can learn a lot from the training which was never provided earlier, said the Sarpanch.
