Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir, April 26, 2025 – The District Administration Ramban, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, has launched a robust initiative to supply drinking water through tankers to areas affected by the recent flash floods and landslides triggered by a cloudburst on April 20, 2025. This effort aims to ensure uninterrupted access to clean water for residents grappling with disrupted water supply lines in the wake of the disaster.
Following the devastating floods that damaged 200–250 houses, a temple, vehicles, and critical infrastructure, including the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the administration has prioritised restoring essential services. The Nabul gravity water supply line and the Surnikund Nallah water supply line are undergoing urgent restoration, with teams working tirelessly to repair damaged infrastructure. Posts on X from the Ramban District Administration confirm that all major water supply schemes (WSS) have been temporarily restored, with ongoing efforts to fully rehabilitate the WSS Ramban Town to address public needs promptly.
Deputy Commissioner Chaudhary has been personally overseeing relief operations, camping in affected areas to coordinate rescue and restoration efforts. “Restoration teams are working on a war footing to ensure water supply is restored across Ramban,” the administration stated, emphasizing swift action to mitigate the crisis. Tankers have been deployed to deliver potable water to villages like Bagahana, Dharamkund, and Marog, where floods disrupted local water sources. The initiative complements broader relief measures, including medical camps, food distribution, and electricity restoration, with 1,486 of 1,762 distribution transformers (DTs) now operational.
The administration’s efforts have been lauded by locals and officials, including Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who praised Chaudhary’s leadership and the Indian Army’s role in setting up aid camps. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local volunteers are also supporting the distribution of essentials. Despite challenges posed by blocked roads and damaged pipelines, the administration’s proactive measures aim to stabilize access to clean water and other necessities.
Amid heightened regional tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, Ramban’s water supply initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to community resilience. The ongoing restoration of the National Highway-44 and public services, coupled with tanker deployments, reflects a multi-pronged approach to recovery and support for flood-affected residents.
