Paddy planting in full swing across Kupwara; 16,000 hectares under cultivation

Kupwara, June 15,2026-Paddy transplantation is underway on a large scale across Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, with nearly 16,000 hectares of land being brought under cultivation during the ongoing agricultural season.

Farmers across the district have intensified field operations, taking advantage of favourable weather conditions and adequate water availability to complete paddy sowing within the stipulated agricultural window. The activity has picked up momentum in both low-lying and semi-irrigated areas, reflecting strong seasonal agricultural engagement in the region.

Officials from the Agriculture Department stated that field-level support, including availability of quality seed varieties, fertilizers, and technical guidance, has been ensured to facilitate smooth transplantation. Extension teams are also actively visiting villages to assist farmers in adopting improved cultivation practices aimed at enhancing productivity.

The department has expressed optimism that this year’s paddy season will yield satisfactory output if weather conditions remain stable in the coming weeks. Farmers, on their part, have welcomed the timely support and continued outreach from agriculture officials.

Kupwara district, known for its agrarian economy, depends heavily on paddy cultivation as a key source of livelihood. The large-scale transplantation drive underscores the importance of agriculture in sustaining rural incomes and food security in the region.
