Jammu, March 21, 2025 – The Purple Fest, a vibrant celebration aimed at fostering awareness, inclusion, and empowerment for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), concluded with a powerful message of resilience and unity. Held in Jammu, the event showcased the extraordinary talents and resilience of Divyangjan, drawing attendees from across the region to witness their contributions and reaffirm a collective commitment to a more accessible and inclusive Jammu Kashmir.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who attended the event, expressed his pleasure in participating, emphasising the administration’s dedication to the empowerment of Divyangjan. “It was wonderful to witness the resilience and talents of Divyangjan. I assured them of my unwavering commitment to build a more accessible and inclusive Jammu Kashmir,” Sinha stated during his address. He highlighted the strides made in recent years to ensure the dignity, rights, and well-being of Divyangjan, underscoring that their integration into every aspect of social, economic, and cultural life remains a top priority.
The Purple Fest, organised in collaboration with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and local stakeholders, featured exhibitions, performances, and interactive sessions that celebrated the capabilities of Divyangjan. Artisans and artists displayed their work, while discussions focused on creating opportunities for economic independence and societal participation. The event aligns with broader national efforts to mainstream persons with disabilities, echoing initiatives like the Divya Kala Mela held earlier in February 2025.
LG Manoj Sinha reflected on the administration’s efforts over the past few years, noting, “We have worked with dedication for the empowerment of Divyangjan. Major initiatives have been taken to ensure their dignity, rights, and well-being.” These include policy reforms, employment opportunities in both public and private sectors, and infrastructure improvements to enhance accessibility across the Union Territory.
Local leaders and attendees praised the event for its uplifting spirit. “The Purple Fest is a reminder of what Divyangjan can achieve when given the right platform,” said a community organiser present at the venue. Participants expressed hope that such initiatives would continue to break barriers and promote a culture of inclusion.
As Jammu Kashmir moves forward, Sinha reiterated his full commitment to integrating Divyangjan into the fabric of society. “Their talents and resilience inspire us all. We will keep pushing for an environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive,” he concluded.
The Purple Fest serves as a beacon of progress, blending celebration with advocacy, and reinforcing Jammu Kashmir’s resolve to champion the rights and aspirations of Divyangjan.
