DC Anantnag reviews arrangements for Chhari Mubarak 2026

Anantnag, August 19,2026- DC Anantnag reviewed arrangements for the sacred procession of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra at a meeting held at the DC Office in Anantnag. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag and Yatra Officer for the Pahalgam Axis, Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, on Tuesday chaired a comprehensive meeting at the DC Office here to review the arrangements being put in place for the Chhari Mubarak of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026.

The high-level meeting brought together key stakeholders responsible for the security, logistics and religious observances associated with the sacred procession. Among those in attendance were SSP Anantnag, Amod Ashok Nagpure; Commandant of the 8th JKAP; the Chief Executive Officer of the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA); Camp Directors of the Nunwan Base Camp, Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panjtarni stations; SDM Pahalgam; along with representatives of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) and other concerned officers.

Journey Timeline Reviewed in Detail

During the course of the meeting, officials undertook a detailed review of the arrangements required to ensure the smooth and safe passage of the Chhari Mubarak, the ceremonial mace that traditionally leads the annual pilgrimage. The holy procession is scheduled to leave Srinagar on 22nd August and, after halting at several locations en route, is expected to reach the Holy Cave shrine on 28th August.

It was informed during the meeting that the Chhari Mubarak will participate in religious ceremonies at a number of significant shrines along its route, including the Shiv Temple at Bijbehara, the Martand-Tirth at Mattan, and the Gourishankar Temple in Pahalgam. These stops hold considerable religious significance for pilgrims and devotees who gather to witness and take part in the ceremonies at each location.

Directions Issued for Essential Facilities

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned officers to ensure that necessary arrangements and essential facilities are made available at every stage of the Chhari Mubarak’s journey. This includes provisioning of firewood, food, pooja samagri (ritual materials), drinking water, accommodation and sanitation facilities, all of which are considered critical to ensuring the comfort and safety of those accompanying the procession.

Dr. Bhat underlined the importance of close coordination among all concerned departments in the run-up to and during the yatra, stressing that inter-departmental cooperation would be key to avoiding last-minute lapses. He further directed officers to remain vigilant throughout the journey and ensure that all arrangements, from the base camp up to the Holy Cave, are finalised well in advance.

Special Orders Issued

Notably, special orders have already been issued to designated officers tasked with overseeing the successful conduct of the journey, underscoring the administration’s focus on a well-coordinated and incident-free pilgrimage this year.

The Chhari Mubarak holds deep religious and cultural significance as it traditionally precedes the main body of pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, and its safe and ceremonious passage is regarded as an integral part of the annual pilgrimage to the Holy Cave shrine.

With preparations now underway across multiple camp stations and halting points, district administration officials reiterated their commitment to providing pilgrims and those associated with the Chhari Mubarak procession with adequate infrastructure and support services throughout the days-long journey, which spans from Srinagar to the Holy Cave via the traditional Pahalgam axis route.

Authorities are expected to hold further review meetings in the coming days as the 22nd August departure date approaches, with a focus on finalising logistics at each of the designated halting stations along the route.
