Over 5.5 lakh applicants compete for 4,000 police constable vacancies

Jammu, November 29, 2024 — Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a meeting with senior officials from the Civil Administration and Police Department to review preparations for the upcoming Police Constable recruitment exams in Jammu and Kashmir. With over 5.5 lakh applicants competing for 4,000 vacancies, the exams are being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB).

The meeting, attended by the Chairperson of SSRB, Indu Kanwal Chib, along with Divisional Commissioners, ADGP Jammu, IGP Kashmir, Deputy Commissioners, SSPs, and other key officials, focused on ensuring smooth, secure, and transparent exam arrangements. Chief Secretary Dulloo emphasized the need for comprehensive planning, particularly in terms of staffing, security, and logistics.

Dulloo instructed the Deputy Commissioners to visit as many exam centers as possible and personally oversee arrangements, including the deployment of observers, invigilators, and security personnel at each location. He also called for senior officers in the district administration to create inspection teams to ensure that all exam centers are adequately prepared and secure. He stressed that no incidents of malpractice or cheating should occur, and the security at each center must be robust.

In addition, the Chief Secretary asked officials to ensure the secure delivery and handling of both sensitive and non-sensitive exam materials to all centers. He also directed that the entire process, from the distribution of exam papers to the submission of OMR sheets to SSRB, be closely monitored for transparency.

Chairperson Indu Kanwal Chib provided a detailed overview of the number of candidates and centres involved. A total of 5,59,135 candidates are registered for the exams, which will be held at 856 centers across the Union Territory. The highest number of candidates, 54,296, will be from Jammu district.

To enhance security and transparency, SSRB has implemented additional measures for the first time, including the deployment of male and female gazetted officers as ‘Frisking Supervisors’ at each center. Videography will also be conducted during the exams to ensure the integrity of the process and prevent any malpractice.

With these arrangements in place, the government is determined to conduct a fair, transparent, and secure recruitment process, ensuring that the benefits of the recruitment drive reach all deserving candidates.
