Manoj Sinha meets PM Modi, presents Coffee Table book on Jammu & Kashmir

Kashmir, August 23,2026- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here and briefed him on the overall situation and key developments in Jammu & Kashmir.

The Prime Minister’s Office wrote on X: “Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha met Prime Minister Narendra Modi”.

Sinha apprised the Prime Minister about the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir (NMJK) campaign and its progress across the Union Territory. He also presented the Prime Minister with a coffee-table book prepared by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), J&K, showcasing the achievements and key initiatives undertaken during the 100-day NMJK campaign.

The meeting is also reported to have covered matters concerning the development and welfare of Jammu & Kashmir, with the Lieutenant Governor briefing the Prime Minister on various ongoing initiatives and efforts being undertaken by the administration.

The interaction assumes significance as the administration continues to intensify its efforts against substance abuse and promote greater community participation in building a healthier and drug-free Jammu & Kashmir. The Prime Minister was also apprised of the progress made through the campaign and the initiatives aimed at strengthening awareness, prevention and rehabilitation efforts across J&K.

Officials aware of the matter said the NMJK campaign has, over its first 100 days, brought together multiple arms of the administration — including police, health, education and social welfare departments — in a coordinated push against drug abuse, particularly among youth in border districts and areas that have historically had limited access to counselling and de-addiction facilities. The campaign’s structured 100-day framework was designed to generate an early, measurable account of progress before the initiative is scaled up further.

The coffee-table book presented to the Prime Minister is understood to compile visual and narrative documentation of this progress, consolidating the efforts of various departments into a single record. Officials said such documentation exercises are increasingly being used by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to present a consolidated account of governance priorities at the national level, and to build a durable record of outcomes that can inform future phases of the initiative.

The meeting was held as part of the ongoing engagement between the J&K administration and the Union Government on issues concerning the development, security and welfare of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. Such interactions between the Lieutenant Governor and the Prime Minister have become a regular feature of Centre-UT coordination in recent years, typically serving as a platform to apprise the national leadership of ground realities as well as administrative and developmental priorities in the region.

While the Prime Minister’s Office did not issue a detailed statement on the full scope of today’s discussions, the specific mention of the NMJK campaign, along with the presentation of a dedicated report on its first 100 days, indicates that the anti-drug initiative continues to occupy a prominent place in the administration’s governance agenda. The Lieutenant Governor’s briefing is also expected to have touched upon other ongoing welfare and infrastructure initiatives being pursued across the Union Territory, given the wide-ranging nature of such periodic engagements with the Centre.

It remains to be seen whether the meeting will be followed by any further central support or the announcement of an expanded, subsequent phase of the NMJK campaign, as the Jammu and Kashmir administration looks to build on the foundation laid during its initial 100 days.

LG Manoj Sinha, who has held the office of Lieutenant Governor since 2020, has met the Prime Minister on multiple occasions in recent months to discuss the security situation, infrastructure development and welfare schemes across Jammu and Kashmir. Today’s meeting adds to this pattern of periodic high-level engagement between the Union Territory administration and the Centre, at a time when the NMJK campaign has drawn considerable attention as one of the administration’s more visible governance initiatives.
