IIM Jammu 10th Anniversary: Manoj Sinha sets vision for next decade

Jammu, August 22 2026- The 10th Anniversary of IIM Jammu was celebrated today at a ceremony that took place at the Mandapam campus. The event had Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha as the guest. He praised the institute for growing from an academic project into a well-known business school around the world.

At the event Sinha spoke to the faculty, students, alumni and staff. He talked about the journey of IIM Jammu saying it was built on “courage and conviction.” He pointed out how the institute started with little and now has international recognition from AMBA and EFMD. It also has research partnerships in many countries. He called the 10 years “extraordinary” and congratulated the entire community.

Sinha remembered the start of the institute. He said that 10 years ago IIM Jammu had 56 students and was using a temporary campus on Canal Road. Now he said, the institute is one of the active and globally connected business schools in India. He called the change a proof of the vision and hard work of everyone who has been part of the institute since it began.

The Lieutenant Governor did not just talk about the past. He also shared a plan for the 10 years. He asked the faculty students and alumni to be as ambitious as they were in the decade.

Sinha encouraged the institute to go beyond copying management ideas and instead create its own bold and unique thoughts. He asked IIM Jammu to use the boardrooms of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh as examples for learning. This meant that the school should focus its studies and research on the situations in the border areas.

He added that research should be based on the economies near the border and on development in areas. These topics are not well covered in management studies but they are important for the region. He saw this as a chance for IIM Jammu to have a place in the academic world instead of just following what other older IIMs do.

Sinha also talked about the importance of learning by doing. He said every student should create something before they finish school. This would help the institute focus on starting businesses helping new ideas grow and working on real projects not just learning in classrooms.

The 10th Anniversary of IIM Jammu brought together people, leaders, business people, teachers, members of the Board of Governors alumni, faculty and students. The event lasted all day. It included the release of books that show the moments in the institutes 10 years. There were also discussions about the future of the institute and how artificial intelligence is changing business and education. Two special sessions on AI were held. One was about how AI affects business the economy and jobs. The other was about how AI changes management education. Many top people from the business and education sectors joined these discussions.

IIM Jammu started in 2016 with IIM Lucknow helping it as a mentor. In the 10 years it has grown in the courses it offers the research it does the training it provides and the companies it works with. It has built a name in the country and around the world. The director, Prof. B.S. Sahay said in his speech that the institute started with 56 students, two classrooms and three teachers. He thanked the Government of India and the Union Territory administration for their support.

As the institute looks ahead Sinha’s words made it clear that IIM Jammu should use its location in a border area to build a research and teaching style that other schools can’t copy. By focusing on the issues of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh the school could become a partner, to local leaders and businesses instead of just following a national curriculum.

The event ended with the faculty students and alumni promising to work towards the goals set by the Lieutenant Governor. As an institute that started with a campus and a few classrooms the 10th Anniversary of IIM Jammu was a time to think about the past and a way to show a stronger more focused future.
