Kho Kho girls playing Inter district competition in Pulwama say they want to excel like Sania Mirza

The District Administration Pulwama organised an Inter District Kho-Kho Championship for girls under 19 age group. DC Pulwama, Basharat Qayoom said, girl teams from all the districts in the Kashmir Valley are participating in the Inter District Kho Kho championship. The teams shortlisted will play at the provincial level. He said the government is trying to promote all kinds of sports. We are trying to construct playgrounds in all our Panchayats. Many playgrounds have been made and we are trying to fill the remaining gaps. The DC said that all youths should participate in sports activities. Girls playing Kho Kho said after provincial level, teams can play for the national. It is a matter of great pleasure that we girls are getting a chance to go ahead and excel in sports. With these organised games the girls said that they can have fun and improve their game, said Kho Kho players. The girls in the Kho Kho teams were thankful for this opportunity to move ahead in the game. The girls were happy that they could focus on the game as their career choice. Describing the shift in the attitude girls recounted how first, our parents did not allow us to play Kho Kho. But after seeing our performance and interest, they thought she could do something. Now they do not think on those lines that she is a girl and not a boy. And nowadays we freely get permission to play our sports. This is an opportunity to showcase our talent, said another Kho Kho team member. Girls can also excel in the field of sports just like many women sports athletes like Sania Mirza. They are our inspirations and we want to become like them, said a Kho Kho player representing her team. The Kho Kho competition was organised by the Joint Director Youth Services & Sports Kashmir and hosted by District Youth Services & Sports Department, Pulwama.
