From Inner Peace to Global Harmony: Mahavira’s Message for Today’s Youth The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir extended his heartiest greetings and best wishes to all on the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira. To understand Lord Mahavir, it is not necessary to just read his words, but one has to jump into the ocean of blessings of Lord Mahavir and see and experience the peak which he had climbed. I bow to Lord Mahavira and would like to begin my talk with the Panch Namokar Sutra, LG spoke. The Mantra Lyrics :Namo Arihantanam (I bow to Arihants – enlightened souls) Namo Siddhanam (I bow to Siddhas – liberated souls) Namo Ayariyanam (I bow to Acharyas – spiritual leaders) Namo Uvajjhayanam (I bow to Upadhyayas – teachers) Namo Loye Savva Sahunam (I bow to all Sadhus and Sadhvis – monks/nuns) Friends, after seeing the changes taking place in the current global situation, the changing relationships between different nations and the changing relationships between human beings, I consider Lord Mahavir to be a very divine great man who was far ahead of his time. Amidst global turmoil, it seems as if Lord Mahavira walked this earth thousands of years ago, but his voice still resonates within us, LG said. And his teachings are so clear and direct, as if he is speaking to us at that very moment. Lord Mahavira not only renounced his empire but also gave up his invaluable wealth and all the comforts and adopted the life of a monk. He had all the comforts and luxuries that a person can desire or imagine but Lord Mahavir renounced them all. After that, Lord Mahavir never created any empire but worked to guide the empires. The blessing of his sadhana that Lord Mahavir has entrusted to all of us is so profound and natural that it is not just a religion but a guide to live in today’s complex world, it is a guide book and works as a pathfinder. The present generation needs to understand that the sacrifice of Lord Mahavir gives us a very important message that the life he was getting from outside was much less than the life possible within him. And this, I believe, is his first and most sacred message. A conscious life, that is, a life lived after careful consideration, is more important and more valuable than an ordinary life. To understand his revolutionary ideas, it is very important to awaken a new consciousness. I consider Lord Mahavira’s philosophy of non-violence to be one of the most important and revolutionary ideas of human civilisation. Today’s youth often become very aggressive and in anger use such words which keep hurting the mind for months. The philosophy of Lord Mahavir teaches us that too is a form of violence. If we ignore someone’s suffering, that too is a form of violence. On Mahavir’s birth anniversary, I would like to request that we need to accept the truth that every perspective is incomplete and physical humility is absolutely necessary for any individual. I believe that by questioning our own thoughts, we can set an example of supreme intelligence for others. In today’s world when people are struggling with divorce, fatigue and dissatisfaction, I believe that the philosophy of Lord Mahavir is not just an idea but also the most practical solution to get relief from stress. Amidst global turmoil, India stands strong today and is continuously moving ahead under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. In the last 12 years, he has laid the foundation for a strong India that has inspired the world with its message of harmony. India has given the message to the world that true peace is not weakness but greater courage and this is not the time to prepare a battlefield but to make the earth safe and I believe that this inspiration probably came from Lord Mahavir, said the Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha.
