Er. Abdul Ghani Kohli meets J&K LG Manoj Sinha to discuss Jammu’s developmental priorities

Jammu, April 15, 2025 – Er. Abdul Ghani Kohli, former Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, called on Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha at the Raj Bhavan in Jammu . The meeting focused on addressing key developmental and community welfare issues, particularly those concerning the Gujjar-Bakerwal community and the broader Jammu region, aligning with ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and cultural vibrancy, such as the Tawi Riverfront project.

Er. Abdul Ghani Kohli, a prominent figure known for advocating the rights and upliftment of the Gujjar-Bakerwal community, presented a memorandum highlighting critical demands. These included the creation of a Gujjar scout program, the establishment of model Eklavya institutions, and improved transport facilities for nomadic populations. Kohli expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for the Union Territory administration’s initiatives aimed at the holistic development of marginalized communities, citing measures like the implementation of the Forest Rights Act as a significant step forward.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who has been steering transformative projects in Jammu and Kashmir since taking office in August 2020, reiterated his commitment to inclusive growth. The discussion reportedly touched on the upcoming lush green transformation of the Tawi Riverfront, a 7-kilometer project inspired by the Sabarmati Riverfront. With monsoons approaching, the riverfront’s planned plantations are expected to enhance Jammu’s ecological and aesthetic appeal, making it a hub for religious and cultural activities during the Amarnath Yatra 2025, scheduled from July 3 to August 9.

“The Tawi Riverfront will not only beautify Jammu but also serve as a vibrant space for spiritual and cultural events, especially during the Amarnath Yatra,” a source close to the administration shared on X, echoing the sentiment of progress in the region. The project, progressing in two phases, aims to integrate urban development with environmental conservation, preserving the sanctity of the Suryaputri-Tawi River.

Kohli also raised concerns about augmenting banking and health facilities in areas like Rajouri, emphasising the need for robust infrastructure to support Jammu’s growing tourism potential. The Lieutenant Governor assured that these issues would be addressed promptly, aligning with the administration’s vision to position Jammu as a key destination alongside attractions like the Jambu Zoo and the upcoming Tirupati Temple.

The meeting underscores the collaborative efforts between BJP leaders and the UT administration to drive development while fostering community welfare. As Jammu prepares for a season of spiritual significance with the Amarnath Yatra and the monsoon-driven greening of the Tawi Riverfront, such engagements highlight the region’s focus on balancing progress with cultural heritage.
