Kathua, June 10, 2025: Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kathua, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Lakhanpur corridor to assess and finalize arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025, set to commence on July 3, 2025. The annual pilgrimage, a significant spiritual journey for Hindu devotees, is expected to draw thousands of pilgrims daily through Lakhanpur, the primary entry point to Jammu and Kashmir.
The inspection focused on ensuring robust civic amenities and infrastructure to facilitate a seamless and safe experience for pilgrims. DC Minhas directed the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) to expedite repair and renovation work on the Lakhanpur corridor, emphasizing timely completion of all facilities. Key preparations include the establishment of 36 lodgement centres, six RFID counters, sanitation facilities, and medical desks to cater to the needs of the Yatris. The corridor is being transformed into a multi-facility hub to enhance pilgrim convenience.
The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, a revered pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave Shrine located at 3,888 meters in the South Kashmir Himalayas, attracts lakhs of devotees annually to worship the naturally formed ice Shiva Lingam. In light of recent security concerns, including the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, authorities are prioritizing enhanced security measures alongside improved medical, transport, and accommodation services starting at Lakhanpur.
DC Minhas underscored the national importance of the Yatra and the district administration’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and secure pilgrimage. The preparations are part of a broader effort by the Jammu and Kashmir administration, in collaboration with the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), to support the expected influx of over 3.5 lakh registered pilgrims.
