Srinagar, March 21, 2025 – On Friday, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, VK Bidhuri, emphasised that the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir has outlined a comprehensive roadmap to achieve 24×7 electricity across the region. However, he stressed that public support remains a critical factor in turning this ambitious vision into reality.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Bidhuri highlighted the Chief Minister’s commitment to improving power supply infrastructure in Kashmir, a region long plagued by erratic electricity despite its hydropower potential. “The CM has laid a clear roadmap for ensuring uninterrupted 24×7 electricity. But this cannot succeed without the cooperation of the people,” he said. He urged residents to adopt judicious usage habits and support government initiatives aimed at reducing transmission losses and curbing power theft.
The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts by the J&K administration to modernise the region’s power grid, with projects like smart metering and feeder segregation already underway. Bidhuri noted that while the government is investing heavily in infrastructure upgrades, the success of the 24×7 electricity goal hinges on collective responsibility. “We can lay the foundation, but the public must help us sustain it,” he added.
The Divisional Commissioner also pointed to recent statements from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has prioritized energy reforms since taking office. Abdullah’s administration has promised to address chronic power shortages, particularly in Kashmir, where harsh winters exacerbate demand. However, challenges such as aging infrastructure and financial constraints have historically hampered progress.
Today’s remarks align with sentiments expressed on social media platforms like X, where posts tagged with #CM and #Kashmir have highlighted the need for community involvement in achieving reliable power supply. Bidhuri’s call for public support echoes a broader appeal for citizens to partner with the government in this transformative effort.
As the roadmap unfolds, officials say the coming months will be crucial in determining whether Kashmir can finally achieve the long-elusive goal of 24×7 electricity. For now, the ball is in the public’s court to rally behind the Chief Minister’s vision and make it a reality.
