Jammu, April 4, 2025: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a high-level meeting in Jammu yesterday to evaluate the progress of National Highway projects across Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need for accelerated execution and zero delays. The review focused on ensuring timely completion of critical infrastructure projects while prioritizing public convenience and addressing regional challenges.
The meeting covered major projects, including the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, Srinagar Ring Road, Jammu-Akhnoor National Highway, Banihal Bypass four-laning, Chenani-Sudhmahadev Road, Khellani Bypass Tunnel, and initiatives under Project SAMPARK. Dulloo scrutinized the physical and financial progress of each project, stressing accountability and swift resolution of bottlenecks such as land acquisition and forest clearances.
Recognising the region’s unique topography, Dulloo called for proactive planning to overcome logistical hurdles. He urged agencies like the National Highways Authority of India , National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited , and Border Roads Organisation to streamline operations and adhere to scheduled timelines. Discussions with senior officials, including Commissioner Secretary for Forest, Ecology & Environment, Sheetal Nanda, highlighted efforts to expedite environmental approvals.
“Efficiency and accountability are non-negotiable,” Dulloo stated, underscoring the importance of these projects for enhancing connectivity, boosting economic development, and improving tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. He directed departments to minimize public inconvenience during construction, particularly along high-traffic routes like the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The meeting saw participation from key stakeholders, including Principal Secretary of Agriculture Production Department Shailendra Kumar, Secretary of Public Works Bhupinder Kumar, and Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar. Officers from the Roads and Buildings Department for Kashmir and Pir Panjal regions also provided updates on ongoing works.
This rigorous oversight reflects the administration’s commitment to transforming Jammu and Kashmir’s infrastructure landscape, ensuring seamless travel and economic growth through robust highway networks. The Chief Secretary’s call for urgency aims to position the Union Territory as a model for timely project execution in challenging terrains.
