Ayushman Sehat J&K: Golden Card Treatment in Pvt Hospitals Raises Hopes for Dialysis, Cancer Patient

Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY SEHAT scheme started in 2018. Under this scheme, a family gets an insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh annually for their medical treatment, said Sanjeev Gadkar, CEO, State Health Agency, J&K. In 2020, the scheme has been opened for all people of J&K. It is known as Ayushman Sehat. Till now, we have issued 82 lakh Golden Cards, said the CEO. Ayushman 3.0 is going to start soon. This will go on till December 31, 2023. We are fortunate that the government has given us this facility of Golden Card treatment for free, a beneficiary patient in Srinagar hospital said. The rich people have no problem but the poor face a lot of difficulties in gathering even Rs 30,000 money for expensive treatments at hospitals. They die for lack of money. Now we can get good treatment and enjoy facilities of private hospitals too with our Golden Card. The poor people are blessing the government for the Golden Card has given them tremendous relief. I had stones in my kidney and I was treated at this private hospital for free, said another beneficiary of Golden Card. My surgery, medicine, stay, food, etc were all free. I benefiited from this Golden Card and I am thankful to the government for it. This is world’s biggest free healthcare scheme started by the government of India. This scheme is for everyone in J&K. It covers 100% population. We see most of the patients are coming under the Golden Card scheme. All kinds of patients whether a newborn or old get treated under the scheme, said Latif Ahmed, Manager at Noora Hospital in Srinagar. He said even chronic disease patients like dialysis patients or cancer patients have benefitted. Those who could not afford travel expense get their treatment for free. We carry out 35-40 dialysis on an everyday basis. It is done without nay charge for Golden Card patients. Even cancer patients get their treatment absolutely free.
