Jammu, August 17,2026-The Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 formally commenced on Monday as Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of devotees from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu, marking the start of one of the region’s most cherished annual pilgrimages to the Poonch district shrine.
Addressing the gathering at the flag-off ceremony, LG Sinha extended his best wishes to the pilgrims, describing the journey as a deeply spiritual and transformative experience. “The sacred journey to Baba Budha Amarnath’s abode is a deeply enlightening experience. I firmly believe this pilgrimage brings profound transformation and reveals life’s deepest truths to every devotee,” he said, wishing all yatris a safe and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage.
Elaborate Arrangements and Coordination
The Lieutenant Governor expressed deep appreciation for the meticulous coordination shown by the Baba Amarnath and Budha Amarnath Yatri Nyas, along with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal, local district authorities, langar organisers, and civil society groups, whose combined efforts have ensured smooth arrangements for both the yatra and the accompanying Budha Amarnath Ji Mela — the annual religious festival held alongside the pilgrimage.
Officials reiterated that comprehensive security, healthcare, sanitation, and logistical support have been put in place across the pilgrimage route to ensure the safety and comfort of devotees travelling from various parts of the country to the Himalayan shrine in Poonch.
A Gathering of Dignitaries
The flag-off ceremony witnessed a large turnout of eminent spiritual leaders, religious heads, public representatives, senior civil and police administrators, security officials, and enthusiastic devotees, all of whom joined the Lieutenant Governor to send off the first convoy of pilgrims with traditional fervour and religious chants.
About the Budha Amarnath Yatra
The Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra is an annual pilgrimage to the ancient Budha Amarnath temple, nestled in the hills of the Poonch district near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Revered as one of the oldest Shiva shrines in the region, the temple holds deep religious significance for devotees of Lord Shiva, who consider it linked in legend to the more famous Amarnath cave shrine in Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The pilgrimage, revived in its modern organised form by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in 2005, draws thousands of pilgrims each year from Jammu, other parts of India, and beyond, who travel to the shrine to offer prayers during the sacred Shravan month.
Every year, the Jammu and Kashmir administration works alongside religious trusts, security forces, and volunteer organisations to manage the influx of devotees, providing free langars (community meals), medical camps, and transport facilities along the route to Poonch.
Security and Safety a Priority
Given the shrine’s proximity to the border areas, security remains a top priority for the annual yatra. Authorities have deployed additional security personnel along the route this year, with officials assuring pilgrims of a peaceful and incident-free pilgrimage. The administration’s continued focus on upgrading yatri facilities — including accommodation, sanitation, and health infrastructure — reflects its commitment to making the pilgrimage accessible and comfortable for devotees of all ages.
A Symbol of Faith and Unity
The flagging off of the Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 once again underscores the deep-rooted faith that binds pilgrims to this Himalayan shrine. As the first batch of devotees set off from Jammu amid chants and blessings, officials expressed optimism that this year’s pilgrimage would see strong participation, reaffirming the shrine’s status as an enduring symbol of devotion, resilience, and communal harmony in the Jammu region.
With arrangements now in full swing, the annual Budha Amarnath Ji Mela is expected to draw devotees throughout the pilgrimage period, continuing a tradition of faith that has flourished in the Poonch hills for generations.
