Udhampur, July 4,2026- To ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, the Udhampur Health Department has established comprehensive medical arrangements along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), covering the stretch from Tikri to the Chenani-Nashri Tunnel.
The initiative aims to provide immediate medical assistance and emergency healthcare services to devotees travelling towards the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine. According to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Anil Manhas, the department has set up 10 dedicated first-aid camps at strategic locations, beginning from the Tikri Kali Mata Temple and extending up to the Chenani-Nashri Tunnel.
To maximize accessibility, these medical camps have been positioned alongside existing langars serving pilgrims on the highway. Each camp is equipped to provide first aid, emergency treatment, and healthcare support to yatris throughout the pilgrimage.
In addition to the stationary medical facilities, the Health Department has deployed six fully equipped ambulances along the highway corridor. These ambulances are strategically stationed to ensure rapid emergency response, provide life-saving medical intervention, and facilitate the swift evacuation of patients to nearby healthcare facilities whenever required.
Complementing the government’s healthcare efforts, the Om Shiv Shakti Sewa Langar Committee is providing free meals and essential support services to pilgrims. Committee President Varinder Malik said that devotees are being served freshly prepared, hygienic meals three times a day, with the langar scheduled to continue operations until August 28.
Malik also highlighted that the langar premises are secured by CRPF personnel and feature a 24-hour medical camp equipped with oxygen cylinders, medicines for blood pressure and diabetes patients, and ambulance services to handle emergencies efficiently.
The combined efforts of the Health Department, security agencies, and voluntary organisations reflect the extensive preparations undertaken to ensure a safe, comfortable, and seamless pilgrimage experience for thousands of devotees travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway during the annual yatra.
