Pulwama farmer reaps success with HADP-supported Hi-Tech polyhouse cultivation

Pulwama, June 24,2026-A progressive farmer from South Kashmir’s Pulwama district is setting an example in modern agriculture by successfully cultivating high-quality cucumbers in a hi-tech polyhouse established under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).

Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, a resident of Pulwama, has embraced protected cultivation through a HADP-supported hi-tech polyhouse, enabling him to grow premium cucumber crops while overcoming challenges posed by unpredictable weather conditions. The initiative has significantly improved both the quality and quantity of his produce, resulting in higher market returns and enhanced farm income.

Speaking about his experience, Mir said that the polyhouse technology has helped him extend the growing season, maintain optimal crop conditions, and achieve better productivity compared to traditional open-field farming. He credited the Agriculture Department and HADP for providing the necessary support and guidance to adopt modern farming practices.

The success of the cucumber cultivation project has attracted the attention of fellow farmers in the region, many of whom have visited the farm to learn about the benefits of protected cultivation. Agricultural experts believe that such innovative farming models can play a crucial role in boosting agricultural productivity and improving the livelihoods of farming communities across Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials from the Agriculture Department said that HADP is aimed at transforming the agricultural sector through technology-driven interventions, crop diversification, and value addition. The programme encourages farmers to adopt scientific and climate-resilient farming methods that can generate sustainable income.

With rising demand for quality vegetables and increasing awareness about modern agricultural techniques, success stories like that of Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir demonstrate the immense potential of hi-tech polyhouse farming in Kashmir. His achievement serves as an inspiration for young and progressive farmers looking to enhance profitability through protected cultivation and advanced agricultural practices.
