Srinagar, March 9,2026- Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday attached a double-storey residential house valued at around ₹55 lakh belonging to an alleged drug peddler in the Shopian district of South Kashmir, officials said.
According to a police spokesperson, the property belongs to Ghulam Mohammad Khanday, a resident of the Zrakan Keller area of Shopian. The house was identified during investigation as a property allegedly acquired through proceeds generated from the illegal sale of drugs and narcotics.
Police said the attachment was carried out in connection with a case registered at Keller Police Station under relevant provisions related to narcotics offences. The action forms part of the ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking and the financial networks supporting the narcotics trade in the region.
Officials stated that properties accumulated through illegal activities linked to drug peddling are being identified and attached as part of intensified efforts to dismantle the drug ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities believe that targeting assets obtained through drug money can act as a strong deterrent against those involved in the narcotics trade.
The police reiterated their commitment to continuing strict action against drug peddlers and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information related to drug trafficking.
The move is part of broader efforts by the administration and law enforcement agencies to curb drug abuse and break the supply chains of narcotics in the Valley.
