Anantnag, October 30,2025: What began as a small initiative by the Indian Army has now turned into a life-changing movement for women in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Once hesitant to step out of their homes, several women are now driving confidently — a remarkable stride towards women empowerment in Kashmir.
The initiative, launched under the Army’s Mission Sadhbhavana, aims to provide driving lessons and livelihood opportunities to women, enabling them to become independent and self-reliant. The training programme, conducted by professional instructors with Army support, has inspired many women to break barriers and challenge traditional norms.
Local women expressed gratitude to the Indian Army for providing them with a safe platform to learn driving and gain confidence. “This programme has not only taught us driving but also given us courage and self-belief,” said one of the trainees.
Officials from the Indian Army stated that such initiatives are part of their broader efforts to strengthen the bond between the Army and civilians and promote gender equality and social upliftment in the region.
Through its consistent outreach programmes, the Indian Army in Kashmir continues to play a pivotal role in promoting education, skill development, and empowerment, reaffirming its commitment to nation-building and community welfare.
