Srinagar, October 9,2026- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today interacted with a delegation of media representatives from Mumbai at Lok Bhavan, Srinagar. He spoke about the pace of infrastructure modernisation across the Union Territory and the economic and strategic importance of improved connectivity.
A Historic Milestone
During the interaction, the Lieutenant Governor said infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir had been modernised rapidly over the past few years. He described the realisation of the dream of Kashmir to Kanyakumari rail connectivity as a historic milestone in the Union Territory’s development journey.
For decades, the Valley’s link with the rest of the country depended largely on road and air travel, and the idea of a continuous rail connection was long regarded as a distant aspiration. The Lieutenant Governor said the achievement showed how sustained effort could turn long-standing ambitions into reality.
Boost for Tourism, Horticulture and Industry
The Lieutenant Governor said the expansion of railway infrastructure was giving a significant boost to several sectors of the economy, including tourism, horticulture and industry.
“Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the expansion of railway infrastructure is driving a major boost in the tourism, horticulture, industrial and other economy sectors of the Union Territory,” he said.
He added that Jammu and Kashmir was moving forward with unprecedented confidence towards peace and prosperity.
Better rail connectivity is widely expected to make travel to the Valley easier for visitors, shorten the journey for goods and open wider markets for local producers. Tourism operators, orchard growers and small manufacturers are among those who stand to benefit from faster and more dependable transport links.
Connectivity and National Security
The Lieutenant Governor also stressed the importance of strengthening connectivity in the border region. He said it was vital not only for driving local economic prosperity but also for safeguarding national security.
Reliable roads, rail links and other infrastructure in remote and border areas help residents reach markets, healthcare and education, while also supporting the movement of essential supplies and personnel. By linking development with security, he said, connectivity serves both the people of the region and the nation.
Engagement With Media Representatives
The interaction with the Mumbai delegation was part of ongoing efforts to share the Union Territory’s development story with audiences beyond the region. Visits by journalists and media professionals from other parts of the country give them a first-hand view of the changes taking place in Jammu and Kashmir, from improved infrastructure to the revival of tourism.
Mumbai, home to a large media and entertainment industry, has historically had a strong connection with Kashmir, which has long been a favourite location for filmmakers and a popular destination for travellers from Maharashtra. Interactions of this kind help carry current realities from the Valley to a national audience.
Looking Ahead
The Lieutenant Governor’s remarks reflect the administration’s emphasis on infrastructure as the foundation of economic growth. With rail connectivity now extending the Valley’s reach to the rest of the country, officials say the focus will remain on converting better access into jobs, investment and opportunity for local communities.
The Lieutenant Governor said the Union Territory’s progress toward peace and prosperity was gathering pace, driven by connectivity, tourism and a growing economy.
