Srinagar, October 6,2025: In a significant boost to Kashmir’s tourism industry, a Bollywood film crew has arrived in the Valley to begin shooting at some of its most iconic locations, signalling renewed confidence in the region’s safety and hospitality. The development comes at a crucial time for the tourism sector, which had been struggling to recover from the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack in Baisaran, Pahalgam, that claimed the lives of several Hindu tourists.
The incident had led to widespread travel cancellations, with empty hotels and a sharp decline in visitors across major tourist hubs including Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and Srinagar. However, the arrival of a high-profile Bollywood production team has brought a renewed sense of hope among locals, business owners, and tourism officials alike.
The crew will film across several scenic destinations such as Dal Lake, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam, capturing the Valley’s breathtaking natural beauty. The presence of film stars and production staff has already drawn large crowds of locals and domestic tourists eager to witness the shoot, creating a wave of excitement in the region.
A senior official from the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department expressed optimism, stating, “This is more than just a film shoot—it’s a message to the world that Kashmir is safe, welcoming, and ready to host visitors again.” The official also emphasised that stringent security arrangements and close coordination with local authorities have been put in place to ensure a smooth filming process.
Local stakeholders have also voiced their appreciation. Tariq Ahmad, a houseboat owner at Dal Lake, shared, “After months of cancellations, this is a breath of fresh air. When Bollywood comes, tourists follow. It brings life back to our business.” Similarly, Naseer Khan, a shopkeeper from Pahalgam, said, “The sound of film cameras means hope for us—it tells the world that Kashmir is open, peaceful, and full of life again.”
Industry experts believe that Bollywood’s return to Kashmir could mark the beginning of a sustained revival for the Valley’s economy. Over the decades, the region has been a favorite shooting destination for filmmakers, known for its snow-capped mountains, lush meadows, and serene lakes.
The government’s ongoing efforts to promote film tourism under the Jammu & Kashmir Film Policy have also contributed to attracting production houses back to the Valley. Officials say that multiple upcoming projects are in the pipeline, with several production companies expressing interest in shooting in the region during the winter season.
For locals, the film shoot is more than an entertainment spectacle—it’s a symbol of resilience. Despite setbacks, the people of Kashmir continue to display optimism, determination, and a deep-rooted belief in the Valley’s ability to recover and thrive.
As the cameras roll once again amid the chinars and snow-clad peaks, the message from Kashmir is clear: the Valley is ready to welcome the world back with open arms.
