Srinagar, August 28, 2025 – Following Bharti Airtel’s announcement of support measures for customers affected by severe weather, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited has rolled out similar relief initiatives for its subscribers in the flood-hit regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. The telecom giant’s move comes amid ongoing heavy rains and landslides that have disrupted connectivity across these areas, highlighting the critical need for reliable communication during emergencies.A Jio spokesperson stated that the company continues to provide essential connectivity in most affected zones despite the challenging conditions. “Jio recognizes the vital role of reliable connectivity in enabling access to emergency services, family communication, and critical updates,” the spokesperson emphasized in an official release. This initiative aligns with broader efforts by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which has activated Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) in Jammu & Kashmir, allowing users to connect via any available network until September 2, 2025.Under the relief package, Jio prepaid mobile and JioHome subscribers whose plans are expiring this week will receive an automatic three-day validity extension at no extra cost. Prepaid mobile users will benefit from unlimited voice calling and 2GB of high-speed data per day during this period.
For JioHome users, the extension provides three additional days of their last valid plan’s benefits without requiring a recharge. Additionally, postpaid mobile and JioHome customers will get a three-day grace period on bill payments to ensure uninterrupted service continuity.Jio’s engineering teams are actively working on the ground to bolster network resilience and restore full infrastructure. “Jio’s on-ground engineering teams are working diligently to enhance network resilience and further strengthen infrastructure to meet ongoing challenges. As a pioneer in India’s digital transformation, Jio is steadfast in its commitment to delivering world-class connectivity and supporting communities through every hurdle, aligning with the vision of a truly connected Digital India,” the spokesperson added. This follows Airtel’s similar announcement on August 27, where the company offered a three-day extension for prepaid plans expiring this week, including unlimited calls and 1GB of data per day. Airtel also provided a three-day grace period for postpaid and broadband bill payments, with teams focused on rapid service restoration. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed solidarity with the affected regions, noting the activation of ICR to maintain connectivity. The severe weather has led to widespread disruptions, including damaged telecom infrastructure, power outages, and road blockages. While Jio’s diversified backbone connectivity has helped maintain services in many areas, other operators faced more significant outages. The relief measures are expected to provide much-needed support to residents navigating the crisis, ensuring they remain connected for safety and coordination.
