The Kashmiri culture of pherans inspiring the youth to stay away from western culture

Pheran Day was organised for the first time in Srinagar to create awareness among the youth about the culture of Kashmir. Pherans are donned by Kahmiris during the 40-day ‘Chillai Kalan’ period (November to March) to protect them from the harsh freezing cold winters. Kashmir’s youth including males and females sashayed on the ramp promoting the Pheran culture at the Pheran Day event held in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk. The youth getting inspired by the event donned their pherans and danced on the stage. It was also a step to remind the youth who are drawn towards western culture. The pheran culture represents Kashmir’s heritage. The event aimed at creating greater awareness among the youth and making the Kashmir heritage even richer.
