Talab Tillo polyhouse boosts farmers with hybrid saplings

Jammu,April 27,2026- In a major boost to the agricultural sector, the state-of-the-art fully automated polyhouse at the Agriculture Department Centre in Talab Tillo is emerging as a game-changer for farmers in the region. Built at a cost of ₹5.92 crore, the facility is helping enhance crop productivity while significantly reducing input costs for cultivators.

The advanced polyhouse is divided into two dedicated sections—one for vegetable nurseries and the other for flower nurseries—where high-quality hybrid saplings are developed using modern techniques. These saplings are designed to improve yield, ensure better quality produce, and increase farmers’ income.

As part of the initiative, around 15,000 hybrid vegetable and flower saplings were recently dispatched to Akhnoor for distribution among farmers at subsidised rates. This move aims to provide affordable and reliable planting material, enabling farmers to achieve higher productivity without bearing high costs.

Officials highlighted that earlier, farmers had to rely on expensive market purchases for quality saplings. With the establishment of this facility, saplings are now being made available at highly subsidised rates—₹2 for vegetable plants and ₹3 for other varieties—ensuring substantial savings and improved profitability.

The Agriculture Department stated that the polyhouse will continue to serve farmers throughout the year by maintaining a steady supply of quality planting material. The initiative is expected to strengthen the agricultural ecosystem in Jammu and support sustainable farming practices.
