Ratnipora village selected for Waste Management pilot project in India

The Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj in Block Kakapora, Halqa Ratnipora has initiated a pilot programme for Solid Liquid Waste Management. Gulzar-ul Rehman, Block Development Officer says, the rubbish garbage is generally considered a waste. If we over process and over utilize it then we can increase the resources of our Panchayats. We can save our environment. Our air and water channels, land etc. will not get polluted. So this is a very big advantage. The district administration Pulwama has left the door open that whatever money is invested in it, it has to be a successful programme and should set an example for other districts. In Jammu & Kashmir.

This is a novel cause and mission, says Abdul Qayoom Mir, BDC Member. Cleaning waterbodies, cities, and villages is our responsibility so that our lives and the lives of future generations is safe from diseases. Clean environment and good atmosphere should be there for everyone. In this district, Chinar tree plantation drive will also be taken up so that the face of the district is covered in green.

The current challenge is to make the human beings to focus on the agenda. Rashid Ahmed, a local resident is of the view that the population is huge in Pulwama. In every small or big colony, corner areas get filled with waste overflowing on the streets. There are around 15, 000 people and waste gets dumped on the roads and rivers. There are big chances of outbreak of diseases. The waste management programme will be a good test here and if successful, should be implemented in all the villages, said Rashid.

The local people are happy that Ratnipora has been selected for this pilot project of waste management programme. Another senior resident said, Ratnipora has always been a model village and we are thankful that it has been selected for this waste management project.
