Kashmir Ahead

Pahalgam witnesses tourist surge as heatwave drives visitors to Kashmir

Srinagar, June 2,2026- As several parts of India continue to grapple with an intense heatwave, the cool climate and scenic landscapes of Kashmir are drawing an increasing number of tourists to the Valley. Among the most sought-after destinations, Pahalgam has witnessed a significant surge in visitor arrivals over the past few days, resulting in heavy traffic congestion and bustling tourist activity.

Popularly known as the “Valley of Shepherds,” Pahalgam has remained packed with tourists seeking respite from soaring temperatures in the plains. Roads leading to and within the hill resort have experienced frequent traffic jams as thousands of visitors flock to the picturesque destination to enjoy its pleasant weather, lush green meadows, and pristine surroundings.

Adding to the attraction is the revival of river rafting activities in the region, which has further boosted tourist footfall. Adventure enthusiasts and families alike have been taking part in rafting on the Lidder River, making it one of the most popular recreational activities during the ongoing tourist season.

Local tourism stakeholders have welcomed the surge in arrivals, describing it as a positive sign for Kashmir’s tourism industry. Hotels, guest houses, restaurants, transport operators, and local businesses have reported increased activity as the Valley experiences a strong tourism season.

Officials said that efforts are being made to manage traffic movement and ensure smooth travel for visitors. Tourism authorities have also urged tourists to follow traffic advisories and cooperate with local administration to avoid inconvenience during peak travel hours.

The influx of visitors highlights Kashmir’s growing appeal as a preferred summer destination. With temperatures remaining pleasant compared to the scorching heat prevailing in many parts of the country, destinations such as Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Srinagar continue to attract travelers from across India and abroad.

The ongoing tourist rush is expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy while reinforcing Kashmir’s reputation as one of India’s premier tourism destinations.
