Kishtwar, March 6,2026- In a major boost to rural housing development, Kishtwar district has achieved an impressive 96 percent completion rate under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G). Out of the 16,209 houses sanctioned, 15,543 houses have already been completed and handed over to beneficiaries, significantly improving housing access for rural families across the district.
Officials reported that 666 houses are currently under construction, indicating steady progress toward achieving full completion under the flagship rural housing scheme. The milestone reflects the district administration’s focused efforts to ensure timely implementation and delivery of housing benefits to eligible households.
Launched to provide pucca houses with basic amenities to rural poor, PMAY-G has played a crucial role in transforming the living conditions of thousands of families in Kishtwar. With most houses already completed, the scheme is helping beneficiaries move from temporary or dilapidated structures to safer and more durable homes.
District authorities credited the achievement to efficient coordination between local administration, implementing agencies, and community participation. Regular monitoring, improved fund flow, and technical supervision have helped accelerate construction work across various blocks of the district.
The ongoing construction of the remaining houses is expected to be completed soon, further strengthening the district’s progress toward universal housing coverage in rural areas.
