Javed Rana introduces new initiatives in Mendhar under the Jal Jeevan Mission

Mendhar, February 28, 2025 – Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Rana took a major step toward ensuring clean drinking water for all, inaugurating two new water supply schemes in Kasab and Malikpur, Mendhar, under the Jal Jeevan Mission . With costs of ₹325.31 lakhs for Kasab and ₹545.21 lakhs for Malikpur, these projects highlight the government’s commitment to transforming lives in Jammu & Kashmir’s Poonch district.

The Kasab scheme will pipe clean water to hundreds of households, while the Malikpur project addresses years of local pleas for a steady supply. At the launch, Rana stood firm on the mission’s promise: “Every home deserves safe water, and we’re delivering it, one village at a time.”

The Jal Jeevan Mission, kicked off by the Government of India in 2019, aims to bring tap water to every rural household—a goal initially set for 2024 but now pushing forward into 2025. In J&K, progress is picking up, with Kasab and Malikpur joining a growing list of success stories. Local officials say these schemes will cut down the daily trek for water, a burden felt most in Mendhar’s far-off areas.

Rana’s been on the move this week, checking JJM projects across the Pir Panjal region, especially timely with snow blanketing Kashmir. “This isn’t just about water—it’s about dignity,” said a Malikpur resident, summing up the mood. The schemes promise reliability, even as winter tests the region’s infrastructure.
