Ganderbal Wayil Bridge opens for the public for testing the two-lane steel arch truss bridge

Earlier there used to be too many traffic jams and accidents in Wayil, Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. If somebody used to fall sick it added to our troubles, said a local of Ganderbal. The construction of a two-lane steel arch truss bridge at Wayil in Ganderbal district has been completed and thrown open for the public on a trial basis. The locals are so happy that they are saying that they wish from the heart to Allah to keep the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha safe till ‘qayamat’. This is because of his efforts that they have got the bridge, locals say. A Ganderbal woman said the bridge will definitely be useful for the locals as they will not face traffic jams for hours. The current one-way bridge over Nallah Sindh near Wayil often causes traffic disruption, causing trouble for passengers. Even tourists faced traffic jams travelling on the Srinagar-Leh Highway. The Wayil bridge construction is an achievement of Ganderbal, she said. In almost 50 years, people of Ganderbal are seeing a bridge being completed here. The Lieutenant Governor has done it in two years. The Wayil bridge is the only link connecting Srinagar to Leh and therefore is a significant development of infrastructure in the region. We are so thankful to him, said the locals. With earlier governments we had been continuously demanding for a bridge but it came to realisation only under the current regime of the Lieutenant Governor administration Shri Manoj Sinha within just two years’ time frame, locals pointed out.
