DC Ganderbal Inaugurates Sakhi Café to Empower Women | Step Towards Financial Independence by SHGs A Sakhi Café has been inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal in Mini Secretariat Ganderbal. The Sakhi Cafe is to be run by Self Help Group (SHG) Members of JKRLM (UMEED). All the ladies who are associated with Self Help Group have got a chance to prove their capability, said a district authority. This is a ground-breaking step towards fostering financial freedom for women. The café is located within the premises of the Mini Secretariat and it will be managed by women SHGs. Today the girls who have come out of their homes and are associated with this are doing things which we had not even thought of till now. Now the girls are entering catering and different trades and they are serving at Avsar stores in the Airport. We hope that this initiative will be very successful, said a woman authority in Ganderbal. This is a very good beginning for women. We are setting an example for all the girls who stay at home The government says there should be women empowerment. I will also say this that girls sitting at home get frustrated and take wrong step. It is better to utilise their talent which is present in every woman, said a SHG worker at the Sakhi Cafe. These women from SHGs have undergone formal training provided by the Institute of Hotel Management under the Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission. I want other girls to also bring out their talent and do something new, said a woman working at the Sakhi Café. DC Ganderbal said that the Sakhi Café stands as a testament to the commitment towards empowering women, not only providing a valuable service but also serving as a symbol of progress and equality in the district. DC Ganderbal added that many steps have been taken for women empowerment like One Stop Centre, Sakhi Club, Mahila Shakti Kendra, Women’s Special Cell. In every Panchayat, a Sakhi Club has been established. The Sakhi Café at Mini Secretariat was established with the thought of women empowerment strengthening the SHG members. There will be facilities for the officials working in the mini secretariat or the people who come here. They can avail tea, breakfast and other facilities in the café, DC said. NRLM has created such a mechanism that all the SHGs of the entire district will be connected to it. I congratulate them for setting a great example of profit sharing. I hope that this Sakhi Café will prove to be a very profitable venture for us, DC Ganderbal said.
