DC Budgam Athar Aamir Khan leads Women’s Day celebration event

Budgam, March 8,2026- International Women’s Day 2026 was celebrated with enthusiasm and a spirit of empowerment at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall in Budgam, where district officials, women achievers, and members of civil society gathered to mark the occasion and highlight the growing role of women in society.

The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan (IAS), who reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to strengthening women’s empowerment and ensuring equal opportunities for women across sectors.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that empowering women is essential for building an inclusive and progressive society. He highlighted the various initiatives being implemented by the administration to support women in education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and self-employment.

“Women are the backbone of our communities. Their participation in decision-making and economic activities is vital for sustainable development,” he said while urging departments to further strengthen programs that support women’s growth and leadership.

During the programme, several women achievers from Budgam were recognized for their contributions in different fields. The event also featured cultural performances and interactive sessions that celebrated the achievements and resilience of women in the district.

On the sidelines of the celebration, the Deputy Commissioner also presided over a separate event organized by the Agriculture Department, which showcased the success stories of women farmers who have been making remarkable progress in agriculture and allied sectors.

Officials highlighted how women farmers in Budgam are adopting modern agricultural techniques, participating in government schemes, and contributing significantly to rural livelihoods. Many of these women have successfully taken up horticulture, vegetable cultivation, and other agri-based activities, becoming role models for others in their communities.

DC Budgam lauded the dedication and hard work of these women farmers, noting that their achievements demonstrate the transformative power of government support, training programs, and community participation.

He encouraged more women to come forward and take advantage of various schemes offered by the agriculture department and other government agencies aimed at promoting financial independence and entrepreneurship among women.

The celebration concluded with a renewed pledge from the district administration to continue working toward gender equality, ensuring that women in Budgam receive the opportunities, resources, and support necessary to thrive in every sphere of life.
