Bumper Saffron Harvest in Kashmir’s Pampore | Div Commissioner Bidhuri Resolves Irrigation Issue When saffron flower picking season comes in Kashmir it starts from October 25 and goes on till November 15. If the day and night temperature stays right, around 10 degree in the night, then flowers blossom well, said a saffron farmer in Pampore. Throughout the world, the highest class saffron is cultivated only in Kashmir. That too in Pampore district’s Karewa. Around 32 villages are associated with it and 16000 saffron operating firms are linked to it. Saffron production has been going on since our seventh generation. And since then we are dependent on it for livelihood, said the saffron farmer. In the National Saffron Mission the government showed us how to cultivate saffron to increase its productivity. This technique was helpful. They suggested another method irrigation in which we lack behind, the farmer said. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said there was one issue of irrigation which we had not completed. We discussed the issue in detail. Now we are happy to say that issue has been resolved. This year in 2023 we have had a bumper production. I am happy that the saffron here has got a GI Tag too. The administration is seeing to it that saffron farmers in Pampore get the maximum price. May there be more happiness, the DC wished. Nature has given us a wonderful gift, we have to take care of it so that it can be useful for future generations, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said.
