Kashmir Ahead

Meer Bilal: Kashmir’s Solar Innovator

Meer Bilal, a mathematics teacher and innovator from Jammu and Kashmir, is making a mark through his work in solar technology. With over 15 years of experience, he has developed innovative projects, including a solar-powered car named ‘RAY’ and a solar scooty. He has also secured several patents for his innovations. Bilal is now planning to develop a boat that can operate using natural resources, reflecting his interest in sustainable technology and clean energy. Beyond his inventions, Bilal believes that skill-based education is essential for preparing young people for the future. He says that traditional education alone may not be enough to meet the demands of the modern job market. Students must also gain practical knowledge and technical skills to turn their ideas into reality. He hopes to guide students from Classes 8 to 12 by introducing them to innovation and skill development alongside their regular studies. His vision aligns with the National Education Policy’s emphasis on practical learning, vocational education and innovation. Bilal has also acknowledged the support of the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), which helped fund the setup of his solar laboratory. His journey highlights how passion, practical learning and determination can encourage innovation. Meer Bilal’s work offers inspiration to young people in Jammu and Kashmir to explore technology, develop new ideas and contribute to a sustainable future.
