Pampore Saffron farmer welcomes 24th PM-KISAN instalment

Pampore,  October 31,2026- Saffron farmer Irshad Dar Ahmad from Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the release of the 24th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on October 30, 2026. The financial assistance, provided directly to eligible farmers’ bank accounts, is intended to support agricultural households and help them meet farming-related expenses.

Speaking about the latest instalment, Dar said the financial assistance provided under the scheme has been helpful in managing agricultural expenditure and meeting various financial requirements associated with farming. He thanked the Prime Minister for continuing the initiative and ensuring financial support reaches eligible farmers.

“I want to express my gratitude to our honourable Prime Minister because today our PM-KISAN instalment has been released,” Dar said.

Explaining the benefits of the scheme, the saffron cultivator said eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 annually under PM-KISAN. The amount, he noted, can help farmers purchase essential agricultural inputs, including fertilisers, and manage other expenses connected with cultivation.

Dar also referred to the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, highlighting how access to institutional credit can help farmers meet their financial requirements. He said that he had received a Kisan loan of ₹1,60,000 through the credit facility and described the support as useful in managing agricultural expenses.

According to Dar, the financial assistance received under PM-KISAN also helps farmers manage their repayment commitments and reduces some of the pressure associated with farming-related expenditure.

He explained that the annual assistance of ₹6,000 could be utilised towards expenses such as fertilisers and other agricultural requirements, while also helping farmers manage their financial obligations.

The PM-KISAN scheme was launched in February 2019 by the Central Government to supplement the financial needs of eligible landholding farmer families across the country. Under the initiative, beneficiaries receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each. The amount is transferred directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.

The release of the 24th instalment on October 30 marks another round of financial assistance under the nationwide programme. According to the Union Government, more than 9.34 crore eligible farmers received benefits amounting to over ₹18,690 crore in this instalment.

The scheme aims to provide predictable financial support to farming households, enabling them to meet some of their agricultural and household requirements. The assistance can be used for purchasing seeds, fertilisers and other essential inputs, although beneficiaries are not restricted to spending the amount on specific agricultural items.

For farmers in Kashmir, agriculture remains an important source of livelihood, with saffron cultivation holding particular significance in areas such as Pampore, widely recognised for its traditional saffron production. Cultivators in the region depend on agricultural resources and timely financial support to maintain their farming activities.

The Kisan Credit Card scheme, meanwhile, provides eligible farmers with access to institutional credit for agricultural and related requirements. Unlike PM-KISAN, which provides direct income support, KCC is a credit facility that allows farmers to access loans subject to applicable banking conditions and repayment requirements.

Dar’s remarks highlight the importance that individual farmers attach to financial assistance and access to agricultural credit. His comments also reflect the practical concerns of cultivators who must manage input costs, credit obligations and other expenses throughout the agricultural cycle.

The government has continued the PM-KISAN programme as part of its broader agricultural support framework, with payments made through digital transfers intended to reduce intermediaries and improve the delivery of benefits.

For saffron cultivators like Irshad Dar Ahmad, the latest instalment represents an additional source of financial assistance that can contribute towards managing the expenses of farming and sustaining agricultural activities in Pampore.
