Jammu, October 12,2026- The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu, is set to host the 1st National Paragliding Accuracy Cup 2026 at Aithem on Surinsar Road from October 24 to 26. The three-day championship will bring together skilled paragliding pilots from across the country and is expected to give adventure tourism in the Jammu region a significant boost.
The event will feature two main competitions, spot landing and duration flying, testing the precision, control and endurance of participating pilots. The championship carries a total prize pool of ₹7 lakh.
Registration Open for P4-Certified Pilots
Registration for the championship is free and open to P4-certified pilots. Interested participants can register till October 15. Officials have encouraged eligible pilots to complete their registration before the deadline to secure their place in the competition.
The P4 certification requirement ensures that the event is open to experienced pilots with the skills needed to take part in a competitive, technically demanding format.
What Is the Paragliding Accuracy Cup?
Accuracy-based paragliding competitions are among the most closely watched formats in the sport. In spot landing, pilots must touch down as close as possible to a designated target, which demands precise judgment of wind, altitude and approach. Duration flying, on the other hand, tests a pilot’s ability to read air currents and stay aloft for as long as possible, relying on skill, patience and an understanding of local weather conditions.
Together, the two disciplines offer a complete test of a pilot’s technical ability and flying experience.
Aithem and Surinsar Road: A Promising Destination
The venue at Aithem, along Surinsar Road, is part of the scenic belt near Surinsar-Mansar, which is known for its lakes, forested hills and pleasant climate. The terrain and open skies of the area make it suitable for paragliding, and the Directorate of Tourism has been working to promote the region as an emerging destination for adventure sports.
Hosting a national-level competition at the location is expected to put Jammu on the map for air sports enthusiasts and attract pilots, spectators and tourists from other parts of the country.
Boost for Adventure Tourism and Local Economy
Events of this kind do more than showcase sporting talent. They bring visitors to the region, generate business for hotels, homestays, transporters and local vendors, and create opportunities for young people interested in adventure sports as a career.
The tourism department has been focusing on expanding the Union Territory’s adventure tourism offerings, including trekking, paragliding, river rafting and winter sports. A national championship in Jammu is seen as a step towards building a year-round calendar of such events.
Encouraging Young Talent
The championship is also expected to inspire local youth to take up paragliding and other adventure activities. With a sizeable prize pool and national-level exposure, the event offers pilots a platform to demonstrate their skills and compete with some of the best in the country.
Spectators are also expected to turn up to watch the competition, adding to the festive atmosphere over the three days.
How to Participate
P4-certified pilots who wish to take part must register before the October 15 deadline. Registration details and further information can be obtained from the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu.
With less than two weeks to go before the championship begins, preparations are expected to be in full swing at the venue, as organisers work to ensure a smooth and safe event for participants and visitors alike.
