Katra, October 12,2026- As Shardiya Navratras entered their second day, devotees continued to arrive in large numbers at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, expressing happiness and gratitude after having darshan of the Mother. Pilgrims from different parts of the country praised the arrangements made for the yatra, saying the experience left them spiritually fulfilled.
“I am feeling very happy. Those who get the opportunity to visit this place are truly fortunate. I consider myself very lucky to have had darshan on the second day,” a devotee said. “The arrangements are very good, and everything, including SIM cards, is available.”
The devotee’s words reflected the mood among many pilgrims at Katra, the gateway town to the shrine. Families, elderly devotees and young groups said the facilities along the route made the journey comfortable, even as the rush increased with the festival in full swing.
Second Day Dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini
The second day of Navratri is devoted to Maa Brahmacharini, the form of Goddess Durga associated with penance, devotion and perseverance. Devotees believe that praying to her during Navratri brings patience, strength and inner peace. Many pilgrims said they had timed their visit to coincide with the festival, considering it an especially auspicious occasion to seek blessings.
Facilities Win Appreciation
Pilgrims said the arrangements at Katra and along the track to the Bhawan were well organised. From registration counters to resting points, drinking water, medical aid and sanitation facilities, devotees noted that essential services were easily accessible. The availability of mobile services, including SIM cards, drew particular appreciation from visitors, who said staying connected with family members during the journey added to their peace of mind.
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board makes extensive arrangements every year to manage the heavy pilgrim traffic during Navratras. These typically include crowd management, medical assistance, round-the-clock security and transport options such as ponies, palanquins, battery cars and helicopter services, which help pilgrims of all ages complete the roughly 12-kilometre journey from Katra to the holy cave.
Katra Wears a Festive Look
The town resonated with chants of “Jai Mata Di” and devotional songs. Shops, eateries and lodgings catered to the steady flow of visitors, while local residents, whose livelihoods depend largely on the yatra, welcomed the surge in footfall. Decorative lights and flowers adorned the shrine complex, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Security and Crowd Management
Police and paramilitary personnel remained deployed at key points in Katra and along the route to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the pilgrimage. Pilgrims were advised to register in advance, carry valid identification and follow instructions from shrine officials.
A Journey of Faith
For many devotees, the pilgrimage is a journey of faith and endurance. Several said the long walk and the sight of the holy cave left them with a deep sense of calm and gratitude. Volunteers and service organisations offered refreshments along the route, while younger pilgrims were seen helping elders on the climb.
With the festival continuing, the shrine is expected to receive large crowds in the coming days, particularly around Ashtami and Navami, which are considered the most significant days of Navratri. Authorities have urged devotees to plan their visits early and cooperate with the management for a safe and comfortable yatra.
As evening fell, the lights of the Trikuta hills glowed, and the aarti drew devotees in large numbers, adding to the devotional spirit of the festival.
