J&K showcases rich handloom and handicraft heritage at Bharat Tex 2026, New Zealand Minister visits pavilion

Kashmir, July 18,2026- The Jammu & Kashmir Trade Promotion Organisation (JKTPO) showcased the Union Territory’s vibrant handloom, handicraft, and textile heritage at Bharat Tex 2026 in New Delhi, highlighting the region’s centuries-old craftsmanship before an international audience of buyers, designers, and industry leaders.

The J&K Pavilion emerged as one of the key attractions at the prestigious textile exhibition, with around 20 exhibitors from different parts of Jammu & Kashmir presenting a diverse collection of traditional and contemporary products. The exhibition featured exquisite Pashmina shawls, hand-knotted carpets, papier-mâché, walnut wood carvings, Sozni embroidery, crewel work, silk fabrics, tweed, and other premium handmade products, reflecting the Union Territory’s rich artisanal legacy.

The participation aims to promote Jammu & Kashmir as a leading destination for high-quality handicrafts and textiles while creating new business opportunities for local artisans, weavers, and entrepreneurs in domestic and international markets.

A major highlight of the event was the visit of New Zealand Minister Mark Patterson to the Jammu & Kashmir Pavilion. The minister interacted with exhibitors and appreciated the craftsmanship, innovation, and cultural richness reflected in the products on display. His visit underscored the growing international interest in Jammu & Kashmir’s traditional crafts and their global market potential.

Officials from the J&K Trade Promotion Organisation said the participation in Bharat Tex 2026 is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen market access for artisans, promote exports, and preserve the region’s unique craft traditions. The platform provides local manufacturers and craftsmen with an opportunity to engage directly with global buyers, retailers, exporters, and industry stakeholders.

Bharat Tex 2026, one of India’s premier textile and apparel exhibitions, has brought together participants from across the country and overseas, serving as a major platform for business networking, innovation, and showcasing sustainable textile solutions.

The presence of Jammu & Kashmir at the event reinforces the Union Territory’s commitment to promoting its Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged products, encouraging artisan-led entrepreneurship, and expanding the global footprint of its world-renowned handloom and handicraft sector.
