Kashmir, June 12,2026- Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review security and logistical preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, directing all concerned agencies to ensure an integrated and impenetrable security cover for the annual pilgrimage through close coordination and deployment of advanced technology.

The meeting was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Home Secretary, Director Intelligence Bureau, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and top officers from various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and security agencies.

During the review, the Home Minister emphasized the importance of a comprehensive security framework to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the Yatra, which is scheduled to commence on July 3.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Amit Shah directed all agencies to further strengthen security arrangements through extensive use of modern technology, including drones, CCTV surveillance systems, advanced monitoring mechanisms, and real-time intelligence coordination, alongside traditional security measures.

The Home Minister instructed security agencies to establish a robust multi-layered security grid along the entire Yatra route. He emphasized close coordination among the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces, intelligence agencies, and other stakeholders to effectively address potential security challenges and ensure the safety of pilgrims.

Highlighting the need for continuous monitoring, Shah directed senior officers of CAPFs and the Jammu and Kashmir Police to remain actively engaged in overseeing arrangements at camp sites throughout the pilgrimage period. He stressed that security preparedness must be complemented by efficient management of essential services and facilities for devotees.

The Home Minister also reviewed arrangements related to pilgrim registration, accommodation, healthcare facilities, transportation, communication systems, and disaster management preparedness. He directed officials to ensure that all essential services remain fully functional and accessible to pilgrims during the Yatra.

In a significant move aimed at strengthening security and monitoring mechanisms, Amit Shah directed authorities to carry out registration of local residents and individuals associated with Yatra-related services. He further instructed that QR code-enabled identity cards be issued to facilitate verification and improve overall security management.

The MHA stated that the Home Minister also called for registration and health monitoring of animals used during the pilgrimage. He directed the establishment of dedicated veterinary camps and health check-up facilities to ensure the well-being of animals engaged in transportation and logistical support activities along the Yatra routes.

Given the challenging terrain and weather conditions in the Himalayan region, Shah directed authorities to regulate the movement of pilgrim groups based on weather forecasts and real-time meteorological assessments. The decision aims to enhance pilgrim safety and minimize risks arising from adverse weather conditions.

The Home Minister further instructed security agencies to maintain strong security arrangements not only along the Yatra route but also at major tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that pilgrims often visit various tourist locations before and after undertaking the pilgrimage and should be able to do so safely and securely.

Officials informed the meeting that extensive preparations are underway to ensure smooth coordination among all agencies involved in managing the Yatra. The administration is also focusing on strengthening communication networks, emergency response systems, medical facilities, and disaster preparedness mechanisms.

The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is one of India’s most significant annual pilgrimages, attracting thousands of devotees from across the country. Authorities are working to ensure that this year’s Yatra is conducted in a safe, secure, and well-organized manner through a combination of enhanced security measures, technological interventions, and efficient administrative coordination.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to providing a secure and seamless pilgrimage experience for all devotees undertaking the sacred journey to the holy Amarnath cave shrine.
