Srinagar, May 17, 2026- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that Census 2027 assumes historic significance as it will be India’s first fully digital and paperless Census, integrating advanced digital technologies, mobile-based data collection systems and self-enumeration mechanisms.
The Lieutenant Governor said the upcoming Census marks a major transformation in the country’s statistical and administrative framework, aimed at ensuring greater transparency, efficiency and accuracy in population data collection. He added that the digital Census exercise will enable faster processing of information and strengthen evidence-based policymaking and development planning across the country.
Officials said Census 2027 will leverage modern digital tools, including mobile applications for enumerators, geo-tagging features and secure digital platforms for data collection and management. Citizens will also get the option of self-enumeration through online systems, making the process more accessible and convenient.
LG Manoj Sinha emphasized that the use of technology in Census operations reflects India’s growing digital capabilities and commitment towards modern governance. He noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of Digital India and will help improve delivery of welfare schemes, infrastructure planning and socio-economic development programmes.
The administration has urged citizens to actively cooperate with Census officials and participate responsibly in the nationwide exercise to ensure accurate and comprehensive data collection.
