Kashmir, April 2, 2026- The district administration of Kathua has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Lakhanpur into a Model Welcome Corridor, aiming to enhance the entry experience into the Union Territory.
Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma chaired a review meeting to assess the proposed development works, focusing on infrastructure upgrades and beautification of the gateway town. The initiative is particularly significant as Lakhanpur serves as a key entry point for pilgrims and tourists entering Jammu and Kashmir.
As part of the plan, several vacant government buildings in Lakhanpur will be restored and repurposed for public use. Officials stated that these spaces could be utilized for facilities such as tourist information centres, rest areas, and essential services for visitors.
The administration is also prioritizing improvements in road infrastructure, sanitation, signage, and overall aesthetics to create a welcoming and organized corridor. The development works are being fast-tracked in view of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which witnesses a large influx of pilgrims every year.
Officials emphasized that the initiative will not only enhance the travel experience for devotees but also boost local tourism and economic activity in the region.
